Biography[]
Idril was born in and raised in the city of Minas Ithil by her parents, Castamir and his wife. When she was eleven years of age, Idril's mother was killed by Orcs.
By the time of the Witch-king's assault on Minas Ithil in the late Third Age, Idril had joined the city's army and risen to the rank of Second Captain. Prior to the siege, she spent much of her time cataloguing ancient artifacts, and considered herself the city's foremost historian. She, along with her father and other officers of Minas Ithil's army, met the ranger Talion during the siege, who had come to help defend the city and secure the palantír housed there.
She, along with Baranor, personally assisted Talion in his efforts, though ultimately Castamir despaired and attempted to ransom Idril's life in return for giving up the palantír. Talion and Idril were unsuccessful in preventing this, and after the Witch-king killed Castamir, were forced to flee the city along with the remaining Gondorian survivors.
Idril afterwards traveled to Seregost with Baranor and other Gondorian soldiers in hopes of fighting Sauron's army. She was soon afterwards captured, and subsequently freed by Talion and Baranor, though Baranor himself was captured in the process. She traveled with Talion to Gorgoroth, where they were able to free Baranor, and together Idril, Baranor, and several other Gondorians left to continue fighting the Dark Lord within his domain.
