Iârion is a ranger of the Dúnedain created by Fantasy Flight Games for the The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. Players can obtain him as an objective-ally in The Lost Realm Expansion.
Biography[]
Iârion is found tracking down an Orc war party on its way to attack a Bree-Land village. With the help of the player's heroes, Iârion managers to route the invading Orcs and drive them back into the northern wastes.
Later in Deadman's Dike the player's meet with Iârion again and his younger friend Amarthiúl. After a meeting with Aragorn and Iârion, Amarthiúl comes bursting into the room saying that they have been betrayed; an old man refugee by the named of Thaurdir is actually a powerful wraith and is raising the dead in the ruins of Fornost.
During the battle with the wraith and his ghastly ghouls, Iârion is knocked unconscious and is taken captive by the retreating wraith. Amarthiúl calls upon the player's heroes to help him rescue his brother; which goes through the whole Angmar Awaken's Cycle.
In the last two Adventure Packs (The Battle of Carn Dûm and The Dread Realm) the reason for Iârion's capture is to summon an even more powerful wraith by the name of Daechanar, who was once a former lieutenant of the Witch-king of Angmar. After defeating Thaurdir in The Battle of Carn Dûm, the player's heroes rush inside only to be too late to stop the ritual of Daechanar possessing Iârion. In a hard struggle Daechanar is defeated, but at the loss of Iârion, who briefly thanks the heroes for saving him from the curse. Iârion is laid to rest in Fornost, in a tomb dedicated to those who fought for the defense of the North.
Iârion's armor is only that of ranger leather and cloth, which is moderately worn and torn due to the harsh climate and living condition the Rangers of the North have to live with. His only weapons shown is a ranger bow with arrows and a broadsword for attack and defense.
Card usage[]
In the card game, Iârion is largely associated with his special ability. It is wise to have side quest cards in your deck as it can boast Iârion's skills (to a max of 3 across all stats). Iârion starts with 1 skill across all stats as the main quest counts towards his special ability. This can be further enchance by player side quest and encounter side quests. If all three types of quests cards are out (main, player side, and encounter) Iârion can have up to 3 skills in his stats.
