The Houses of Healing were houses in Minas Tirith at which the sick and injured soldiers of Gondor were tended to. They Houses sat on the sixth circle of the city, near the tunnel to the Citadel, surrounded by lawns and trees.[1]
History[]
War of the Ring[]
Aragorn later entered the city and revealed himself as king after the Warden of the Houses said, "The hands of the king are the hands of a healer, and so shall the rightful king be known." Aragorn requested the herb Athelas, only to be told that the soldiers of Gondor that tended to the ailing soldiers of Gondor did not keep any in the Houses of Healing, as they were unaware of athelas' significance. They sent Bergil to find some. Aragorn then healed the wounded, crushing leaves of Athelas in steaming bowls to make a healing brew.
When Aragorn and the Captains of the West led their forces to Mordor, Faramir and Éowyn remained in the Houses, where they fell in love. Éowyn continued to reside there for a time, even after recovering, as it was the place where she had found consolation.
