The emblem of the the house of the Harp
The house of the Harp was one of the twelve houses of the Gondolindrim. It was a house of musicians who bore a silver harp upon fields of black on their banner and mail. Their leader was Salgant, whose actions in the Fall of Gondolin marred his name among the Eldar forever. He alone bore a golden harp on his mail and was the only one of the Gondolindrim to ride into battle on horseback.
At one pivotal stage of the battle in Gondolin, Turgon instructed Salgant to take his men to the Great Market. In fear he led them instead to the Lesser Market. However, his force turned on him and went to Glorfindel’s aid at the Great Market just as the Orcs began their pursuit. They dealt great damage to the Orcs in their wrath but, leaderless, were ambushed by dragons.[1]
