The House of Ingwë was the royal house of the Vanyar.
History[]
After Oromë discovered the Quendi in Cuiviénen, the Valar decided to invite the Elves to Aman. They chose three ambassadors (Ingwë, Finwë, and Elwë) to offer the Elves the option of making the Great Journey. On their return, Ingwë, Finwë, and Elwë spoke in favor of taking part to the Great Journey because they were fascinated by the light of Valinor. However, a debate arose between the ambassadors and the Elf-fathers, who wished to refuse the Great Journey. In particular, among the Minyar Imin, an ancestor of Ingwë, claimed sole authority, but his kindred decided to depart, electing Ingwë as their king.[1] Thus, all the first kindred of the Elves took part in the Great Journey.[2]
In Aman, Ingwë was reckoned as High King of all Eldalië, the Elves of the Great Journey, and he established himself in Váli-màr with his kindred.[3] Ingwë was son of Ilion. Ingwë and his wife Ilwen had many sons,[4] among whom was Ingwion, who led the Vanyarin warriors in the War of Wrath, capturing Eglarest in the first battle.[5]
Ingwion was a cousin of Indis, wife of the Ñoldorin king Finwë.[6]
