Hordern was a settlement in west-central Mordor in the Second Age, close to Tirharad and Ostirith.
It was invented for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and as such is non-canonical.
History[]
Hordern was home to Men whose ancestors had once sided with Morgoth, and as a result remained under the watch of Silvan Elves. The healer Bronwyn was raised in Hordern by her family many years into the Elven occupation, though she moved to the nearby village of Tirharad.
When dark signs began to appear near Tirharad, Arondir and Bronwyn journeyed to Hordern to investigate, and found the village mysteriously burned, and its inhabitants missing. A tunnel leading into the village was discovered, through which Arondir went to investigate further.
Behind the scenes[]
The name Hordern was first revealed on a map in a promotional video on August 17, 2022.[1]
Etymology[]
The element dern could conceivably be a reference to the Old English word for "hidden".
