In the video game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, Hirgon is a former ranger of Gondor. He later becomes an outcast and leads a band of fellow outcast Men living in Mordor.

This ranger is not the same Hirgon as the errand-rider of Gondor in J.R.R. Tolkien's works.

Biography[]

Hirgon became an outlaw wanted for deserting his posting at the Black Gate. During his desertion, Hirgon fell gravely ill and was nursed to health by a woman named Eryn, whom he would eventually marry. He later became the leader of tribe of outcast Men living in Mordor. While in Mordor, Hirgon becomes a short-term ally of the "Gravewalker" Talion and collaborates with him to first rescue Hirgon's wife and later to devise plans of defeating the Black Hand.

Hirgon boasts of his resourcefulness including his apparent knowledge of a substance called Hithlas, which he states is useful in poisoning Grog, a favored drink of Uruks. He also recalled a time when he acquired a supply of blasting powder from a dwarf living in Mordor, in a supposed trade. However, Hirgon alluded that he exchanged nothing for the powder and made a swift escape with the supply.

Hirgon is successfully reunited with his wife Eryn after Talion rescues her from Uruk slavers. Despite the rescue, Eryn is distrustful of Talion, believing he has every reason not to help their outcast band of people and instead abandon them to be killed or captured as slaves of Mordor. Hirgon however, is still willing to trust and work with Talion, already holding himself in Talion's debt for his help in rescuing Eryn. Hirgon assisted Talion in destroying the site of a monument built in Sauron's image. After the desecration of Sauron's monument and the slaying of the Uruk forces guarding it, the Black Captain known as the Hammer of Sauron soon made his arrival. Knowing the strength of the Black Captains and the overwhelming numbers they would command, Talion urged Hirgon and his wife to evacuate their people from Mordor. This was the last time Hirgon or the outcasts were seen, leaving their fate unknown.
