Hazad, also known as Hazad Longbeard, was a man of Agar in Middle-earth.

History[]

Hazad was the youngest son of Buldar, a warrior of the town of Agar, and Elmar, a woman of the Fell Folk of the East. Buldar took Elmar as prisoner after a battle in the Ishmalog, and married her against her will. Hazad in his youth was "broad, swarthy, short, though, harsh-tongued, heavy-handed, and quick to violence." However, Hazad loved his mother more than all his siblings, and she loved him in return. Thus, due to the admiration he had for her, Hazad married late and had seventeen children. His favorite was the youngest, Tal-Elmar, who resembled much Elmar, who was deceased; while the other children were like Hazad in his youth. Hazad was proud of the number of his descendants, but his greatest pride was his long beard. Along with his son Tal-Elmar, Hazad warned the town-master Mogru that Númenórean ships were approaching Middle-earth shores.[1]
