HarperCollins Publishers is among the largest publishing companies in the world, founded in 1989 as the result of a merge of Harper & Row with William Collins, Sons after the companies' acquisition by Rupert Murdoch's NewsCorp. It is the current non-United States publisher for J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
HarperCollins is headquartered in New York City, with multiple publishing groups in other countries. Brian Murray is currently its CEO.
On November 13, 2017, it was announced that Amazon Studios would be producing a new Middle-earth TV series in cooperation with HarperCollins, the Tolkien Estate, and New Line Cinema.[1] This series, eventually revealed to be titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, will adapt many events of the Second Age, including the forging of the Rings of Power and the Downfall of Númenor. HarperCollins was involved with the release of several maps of Middle-earth in 2019 to promote the show.
