This article is about the Man of Rohan. For the hobbit, see Harding of the Hill. |
Harding was a Man of Rohan.
During the end of the Great War of the Ring, Harding rode with Théoden's army to the relief of Gondor and the city of Minas Tirith. He was killed at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields alongside many others, and commemorated with them in the "Song of the Mounds of Mundburg" with honor.[1]
In adaptations[]
In The Lord of the Rings Online, Harding, son of Harda, is Aldor of Eastemnet and Reeve of the Wold of Rohan. He dwells in the village of Harwick, the main settlement of the Wold, of which he is also the Thane. His son Léodwig along with Wídfara have disappeared in a remote province of Wildermore and Harding sends the player and his companions Gléowine and Horn to look for them. The player find both wounded but alive and they eventually return to Harwick. On March 11 TA 3019 the Wold is attacked from the north across the Limlight river, but by that Harding has already left with the main force to answer Théoden's muster. His son Léodwig mounts the defence instead, but their situation is dire until riders from Wildermore arrive, answering the King's muster themselves. They hold off the enemy for the night, and on March 12 the Ents come and drive off the invaders. Léodwig receives even more serious wounds and stays to rest in Hawrick while the riders from Wildermore catch up with the main force of the Mark and deliver to Harding the news of his son's heroics. Harding later dies on the Pelennor Fields after slaying many foes.
