The Grubb family was an important and wealthy family of Hobbits in the Shire, distantly related to the Bagginses. It is known that a primary family business of theirs was auctioning, as indicated by the name of the company set to sell the contents of Bag End: Messrs Grubb, Grubb, and Burrowes. Bilbo Baggins had a slight connection with the family, as his paternal grandmother, Laura Grubb, was married to Mungo Baggins, and together they produced five children; the oldest of whom was Bungo Baggins, who later become Bilbo's father.
Known members of the Grubb family included Lavender Grubb and Laura Grubb.
Etymology[]
Their name is meant to recall the English verb grub, to 'dig or root in the ground'.
