The Grubb family was an important and wealthy family of Hobbits in the Shire distantly related to the Bagginses. It is known that a primary family business involving auctioneering, as indicated by the name of the company set to sell the contents of Bag End: Grubb and Burrowes. Bilbo Baggins had a slight connection with the family, as his paternal grandmother, Laura Grubb, was married to Mungo Baggins, and together they produced five children; of whom the eldest was Bungo Baggins - Bilbo's father.

Known members of the Grubb family included Lavender Grubb and Laura Grubb.


Their name is meant to recall the English verb grub, to 'dig or root in the ground'.
