Gorgumoth was the Wolfhound of the Vala Mandos according to the early version of the legendarium in The Book of Lost Tales. Gorgumoth guarded Melko in the castle of Lumbi after he was overthrown by Tulkas in the battle of the Silent Pools during the First Faring Forth.[1]

Gorgumoth and the castle of Lumbi are not mentioned in The Silmarillion.

Etymology[]

Gorgumoth is a Gnomish name possibly containing the elements gor- ("to die")[2], gûm ("a burden")[3], and -oth ("abstract noun")[4].[5]
