Eryn was a woman of Gondor in the late Third Age, and Hirgon's wife.
She is a character invented for the game Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.
In adaptations[]
Eryn first met the ranger Hirgon after he fled his post at the Black Gate. He fell ill and it was Eryn who nursed him back to health. They eventually married.
The couple joined a group of outcast Men living in Mordor. During this time in Mordor, Eryn was captured and enslaved by Uruks. She was later rescued by Hirgon and the ranger Talion; though she did not trust Talion and fled from him after he killed her captors. The successful rescue ended with Eryn reunited with her beloved husband.
Despite the rescue, Eryn remained suspicious of Talion, believing he was likely to capture or execute her husband for his desertion at the Black Gate. However, Hirgon remained willing to trust Talion as he felt indebted for Talion's aid in rescuing Eryn, and agreed to aid him in another mission.
After Hirgon and Talion accomplished their mission to desecrate one of Sauron's newest monuments, news quickly spread of a large retaliatory force led by one of the Black Captains known as the Hammer of Sauron. Eryn was last seen with her husband attempting to save the life of a severely-wounded man. Talion returned to the outcast hideout to urge Hirgon to evacuate survivors from Mordor, warning them that a single Black Captain was too powerful for ordinary men to fight. It is likely Eryn followed her husband in leading survivors out of Mordor.
