Eradan son of Baranor was one of the Rangers of the North.

History

Eradan was one of the Rangers of the North, secret protectors of the lands once ruled by their ancestors. The life of a Ranger is a hard one and to survive Eradan mastered many skills. Always outnumbered, he learnt evasion tactics, allowing him to take enemies by surprise or to escape from a tight spot. He was also a master archer, able to bring down foes from afar, and when stealth and archery were of no avail, he was more than capable with his weapons and shields. Eradan fought alongside Andriel, Farin (Champion) and Beleram during the War of the Ring. Later, he accompanied Aragorn II Elessar through the Paths of the Dead.

Appearance in adaptations

Eradan was created for The Lord of the Rings: War in the North and presumably named after this Eradan.

War In The North History

For his adaption in the War in the North video game, Eradan and his two companions: Andriel and Farin are the three heroes that battle Sauron's forces massing in the North, under Agandaur.

Sarn Ford

Eradan and his companions are firstly seen in Sarn Ford , where Halbarad and his fellow Dunedain are battling the Nine Black Riders. After their slaughterring, the lead Black Rider meets with Agandaur, who tells him he's gathered an army in the ruins of Fornost.

Bree

Soon after, Eradan and company go to Bree and tell the news to Aragorn in the Prancing Pony Inn. Aragorn tells them to go to Fornost and deal with Agandaur's warriors, while he escorts a Hobbit on his path to Imladris (or Rivendell ).

Fornost

As the three heroes arrive in Fornost, they are attacked by swarms of goblins and orcs. Eradan's skilled archery and swordsmanship defeat them easily, while Andriel used her magic and Farin used his brute force. After tunneling the sewers of the City, they come across one of the Great Eagles, captured and tortured by goblins. After setting the eagle free, it helps the trio kill the other goblins. When the skirmish is done, the Eagle introduces himself as Beleram, and exclaims how he can talk and how he was captured.

Eradan, Andriel and Farin help Beleram destroy some war machines the orcs are utilizing. After destroying the machines, they press on to the citadel where they regroup with Elrond's twin sons Elladan and Elrohir. After cutting down orc and goblin warriors and sorcerers, they press on to the citadel to capture Agandaur. The elf brothers go after Agandaur, while Eradan and his two companions battle Agandaur's orc chief Tharzog.

Eventually, Eradan and his friends kill Tharzog and his fellow orcs. They go to the top of the tower, where Elladan and Elrohir are dueling Agandaur. When Eradan, Andriel and Farin arrive, Agandaur flees on a Fell Beast. Beleram flies after them, in a thunderstorm created by Agandaur's dark sorcery.

The Barrow-downs

Elladan and Elrohir return to Rivendell while the trio return to Sarn Ford. They wish to go to Rivendell, and agree they must go by the road through the Barrow-downs. As they go through its hills and graveyards of darkness, they battle overwhelming undead corpses and Barrow-wights. As they enter the darker and deeper tombs, they find a fellow ranger named Luin. They push further in the tombs, and find Luin's friends Kilaran is being controlled by the Barrow-wights. They eventually defeat the Barrow-wights, killing Kilaran in the process. But now, the trio could continue on to Rivendell.

Rivendell

During their first visit in Rivendell, they once again meet Aragorn, along with lord Elrond Halfelven, and the wizard Gandalf the Grey. They also meet the Ring-bearer Frodo Baggins, the dwarves Gimli and his father Gloin, Legolas of Mirkwood, and lady Arwen. Eradan and his friends discuss the matter of Agandaur being as much a threat as Sauron himself. Elrond mentions rumors of orcs gathering in the Ettenmoors, and that Eradan and his friends' help would benefit Frodo on his quest to Mordor.

The Ettenmoors

The trio arrives in the Ettenmoors and fight off small hordes of orcs, goblins, and trolls. When a troll comes to kill them, Beleram surprisingly flies down and kills the troll by knocking it off the cliff. Beleram mentions that his presence in the Ettenmoors has to do with a rogue stone giant named Bargrisar. Eradan, Andriel and Farin agree to help Beleram and his kinsmen take down Bargrisar.

The trio venture into the High Moors, where they encounter Bargrisar. After constant fighting, Bargrisar falls but is not beaten. Beleram eventually arrives and kills the giant by ripping his beak into his eyes. With Bargrisar dead, the Lord of the Eagles Gwaihir arrives with two other eagles: Baranthor and Armenel.

Eradan tells Gwaihir that Elrond sent them to look for Agandaur, who was the source of Bargrisar's corruption. Beleram asks Gwaihir if he may accompany Eradan, Andriel and Farin against Agandaur. Baranthor and Armenel join, too; and Gwaihir places them under Beleram's command.

Mount Gundabad

Eradan and his friends return to Rivendell, and tell Elrond that there were orcs gathering in the Ettenmoors. Farin shows Elrond some of their coins they gathered, with Agandaur's black raven symbol on them. Elrond tells them the orcs they faced have come from Mount Gundabad , and Eradan, Andriel and Farin go to Gundabad.

With Beleram, Baranthor and Armenel, they arrive quickly through a blistering blizzard. Beleram tells Eradan that they'll handle the Fell beasts flying around the mountain, while they tend to their own mission. Fighting through vicious waves of orcs, they see a massive force gathering at the bottom of the mountain. After killing more orcs and trolls, they enter the mountain. Upon entrance, they see dead dwarves, and a dying dwarf tells them to find two of his companions who've gone further in the mountain to activate a super weapon.

Traveling through the mountain, they destroy the orcs' war machine manufacturing, and eventually find the two dwarves: Nordri and Bruni. After holding off endless orcs, goblins and trolls, they activate an ancient weapon. The weapon causes the entire mountain to collapse, but the five escape thanks to Beleram and his eagle duo.

Nordinbad

They fly away to the dwarven mountain of Nordinbad. There, they speak with its ruler Gorin and learn that his people are being threatened by Urgost the dragon. Gorin tells them they could learn more from Radagast the wizard in Mirkwood. Eradan, Andriel and Farin decide to go to Mirkwood in search for Radagast.

Mirkwood Forest

Upon arrival in Mirkwood, the company are attacked by Wulfrun, an agent of Agandaur. Astride a Fell beast, he knocks the trio out of the sky. Beleram attacks and kills Wulfrun's Fell beast, while Eradan, Farin and Andriel battle Wulfrun himself. After a vicious duel, they resume their search for Radagast.

Their presence is revealed to the orcs there by the howling of Wargs. The orcs (from the dark fortress of Dol Guldur) attack the trio through the dark glades of the forest. As they venture further, they come across strange things that look like eggs. Venturing further, they battle through a swarm of giant spiders. After killing many spiders, they find Radagast, captured by the Spider-Queen Saenathra.

Eradan and his friends kill the Spider-Queen, and free Radagast. He instantly recognizes Beleram, and he summons many swallows. He speaks to one, and tells them that the swallow knows quite a lot. Radagast shows them through a puddle which he magically turns into a mirror. In the image, Agandaur meets with the dragon trying to get him to serve Sauron. Agandaur tells the dragon - who says he'll consider his offer, and let him know what his decision is in good time - he'll leave behind some warriors just in case, and tells him it would be wise not to defy Sauron.

They now know the dragon's location: in the Grey Mountains. Eradan climbs on Beleram, whilst Andriel on Armenel, and Farin on Baranthor. They head off to the Grey Mountains, now.
