Ents, Elves, and Eriador: The Environmental Vision of J. R. R. Tolkien, by American environmentalists Matthew Dickerson and Jonathan Evans, addresses J.R.R. Tolkien's views and implications of environmentalism and the dignity of nature, as gleaned from The Silmarillion, The Lord of the Rings, and shorter stories such as "Leaf by Niggle". It was published in April 2011 by University Press of Kentucky.
Topics and perspectives include agrarianism, horticulture, Christianity, and environmental action. The book's title refers to the walking trees of Middle-earth, the race with the closest attachment to the woods, and the region containing the Shire.
A foreword is provided by John Elder, and an afterword by Tolkien scholar Tom Shippey.
