The Endless Stair was a long stairway in Moria built by the Dwarves.
History and description[]
The stair climbed from the tunnels far below Moria to the very peak of Zirakzigil in an unbroken spiral of many thousand steps. At its highest point, a windy chamber known as Durin's Tower was carved from the living rock of the mountain. After Moria's abandonment in the Third Age, the stair became legend among the Dwarves, and some believed it to never have been built, or that it had been destroyed and long lost. The uppermost section of the stair was destroyed in the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog on January 23-25 of 3019.[1][2]
In adaptations[]
Video games[]
In The Lord of the Rings Online, the Endless Stair can be observed at various location and altitude levels throughout Moria. Only the bottom of it is accessible, though, as the way above is blocked by rubble left by the Balrog's passage.
