Emeldir also known as Emeldir the Manhearted was Edain woman of the House of Bëor. She was the daughter of Beren who was the son of Belemir of the House of Bëor and Adanel of the House of Marach. Also, Emeldir had two unnamed siblings who were elder to her thus making her the third child of Beren (Son of Belemir).[2]
Biography
Emeldir was the wife of Barahir who was also of the House of Bëor through the line of Baran, the elder son of Bëor the Old.[3] Emeldir then bore Barahir only one child and son who was none other than the renowned Beren Erchamion also known as Beren the One-handed. After the conquest of Dorthonion by the forces of Morgoth, and then after the ruin of Dagor Bragollach (Battle of Sudden Flame), her husband Barahir and her son Beren stayed behind in Dorthonion forming a band of outlaws. Emeldir would have preferred to fight with her husband and son to the death, but instead was charged to lead the women and children of Bëor's folk who had to flee from their homes at that time. Eventually, after many hardships on their journey, Emeldir was successful of bringing them to the safe havens in Brethil. It was because of doing all this that she gained the title Man-hearted.[4]
