Fraser before 2003

Elizabeth Fraser (born August 29, 1958) is a Scottish songwriter and singer who used to be in the Scottish alternative band Cocteau Twins. Despite her critically acclaimed soprano voice, she has had a minimal solo career.

In 2000, she was recruited by Howard Shore to sing the solo part of "Lament for Gandalf", for the soundtrack of Lothlórien in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. When the music for The Two Towers was being produced the next year, she would provide the singing for "Lament for Haldir", a part of the track "Isengard Unleashed" heard during the Battle of Helm's Deep. Both laments are in the Quenya tongue.
