Elder Days, Antonio Vinci

Elves in the Elder Days, depicted by Antonio Vinci

The Elder Days, also called the Eldest Days, were the very First Age of Middle-earth.[1]

During the Second and Third Ages, this term referred to the times that preceded the Downfall of Angband at the end First Age,[2] which began after the Awakening of the Elves during the Years of the Trees.[3][4] However, in the Fourth Age the term began to be applied to all three preceding ages: a time before the dominance of Men and the dwindling of the Elves and other races.[2]

In adaptations[]

The Lord of the Rings film trilogy made by Peter Jackson mentions the Elder Days sparingly. In The Fellowship of the Ring extended edition, Lúthien and Beren are briefly mentioned. Morgoth is mentioned in passing by Legolas in relation to the Balrog, but it is never stated who he is.

In the later The Hobbit films, notable references include mentions of Gondolin and Ungoliant.
