Elanor Kellamark Brandyfoot, more commonly known simply as "Nori", was a Harfoot hobbit who lived in the Second Age.

Biography[]

Elanor was the daughter of Largo and Rose Brandyfoot and the sister of Dilly, and became the step-daughter of Marigold upon her father's remarriage. As a member of the nomadic tribe led by Sadoc Burrows, she dwelt in Rhovanion.

Elanor and her close friend Poppy Proudfellow at one point ventured to an abandoned farm with a number of Harfoot-children, where they discovered a grove of blackberries. The visit was cut short when Dilly discovered the huge footprint of a beast in a patch of mud, prompting Elanor to take the children back to the village.

Thereafter, Elanor witnessed what appeared to be a meteorite crash in the forest near their village, and left to investigate. She was bewildered to discover the unconscious form of a person left in the fiery crater, as was Poppy, who had followed her. On accidentally falling into the crater, she found the flames not to be hot, and despite being startled by the stranger briefly awakening, she and Poppy took him while he slept in a wheelbarrow to a safer location. On returning the next day, Elanor was shown a number of strange markings left by the stranger, who seemed unable to otherwise communicate. Abruptly, Poppy arrived and recalled Elanor to the village, as her father Largo had broken his ankle in an accident. Elanor and Poppy went together that night to see the stranger, and found that he could manipulate the fireflies in their lanterns, though they could make little sense of the meanings he attempted to convey beyond the form of a constellation.

Sadoc's book - TRoP

Elanor returned to her tribe's village and stole into Sadoc Burrows' tent, searching through his guidebook while Poppy kept watch outside. Finding a page illustrating the same constellation the stranger had indicated, she stole it and left it in a satchel while attending the annual migration festival with her family. The stranger, however, had followed her, and in attempting to view the page, revealed himself and his connection to Elanor. As punishment for bringing him near, Elanor's family was made to come last in the migration, troubling them due to Largo's injured ankle. The stranger, however, returned Elanor's kindness to him by helping to push their cart.

Elanor's family follow their tribe eastward across Rhovanion, from Norfield Glen to the Braids and into the woods beyond, where she, Poppy, and Malva Meadowgrass are attacked by three strange wolves while foraging for food. The Stranger comes to their rescue and throws the wolves back with magic, though the act injures his arm, and he goes to heal in a nearby spring. Elanor finds him there, and is scared when the ice he forms to heal his wound ensnares her own hand.

The Harfoots continue on to the Grove, and are disappointed to find that the orchards there have been laid waste by ash from Orodruin's eruption. The Stranger speaks Quenya, beginning the process of healing the trees, though this breaks off a large branch that nearly injures Elanor and Dilly. Worried that he will harm the Harfoots, the Stranger leaves and ventures into the Greenwood. That night, three evil Mystics pass by the Harfoots' camp in pursuit of the Stranger, and Elanor shouts in attempting to keep them from finding his trail, though the Dweller sets their carts afire.

Nori & Stranger - TRoP

Elanor departs along with Poppy, Sadoc, and Marigold to warn the Stranger of those following him, though the Mystics find him first, the Dweller shapeshifting into Elanor's likeness to draw him near. After some resistance from the Harfoots and the Stranger, Elanor is able to pass the Dweller's staff to the dazed Stranger, who comes into his own and disintegrates the three women, saving the other Harfoots. Sadoc was mortally wounded, however, and Elanor grieves for him with her stepmother and friend. Back in the Grove, Elanor's family decides she should travel east into Rhûn with the Stranger, who has recovered some of his memory, but needs to find his true purpose in Middle-earth. She bids a tearful farewell to her family as she departs.

Behind the scenes[]

Elanor was created for the TV series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and so is not part of Tolkien's legendarium. She is portrayed by Markella Kavenagh. The character's middle name, Kellamark, is a reordering of the name Markella.
