The Eastern Desolation was the name given to the eastern-most area of Mordor, east of Lithlad and north-east of Nurn

There is one fortress in it, the Eastern Guard, which overlooks the open passage into Mordor that Variags and Easterlings would have used, maybe even after the fall of Mordor and Sauron in the Third Age.

It is not mentioned in The Lord of the Rings, or even in The Atlas of Middle-earth.
