Drogoth flying over the battlefield
Drogoth the Dragon Lord is a character created by EA Games for The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II. He is an immense winged, fire-breathing dragon allied with the Goblin faction. He as well appears for the same faction in the expansion pack for BFME II, The Rise of the Witch-king.
History[]
Drogoth was probably born a few hundred of years before the events depicted in the game in the Withered Heath. It is unknown if Drogoth knew Smaug. However Dragons being very territorial and possessing creatures, it is very likely that Drogoth simply layed low during Smaug "reign" due to him being much younger and therefore weaker than the "Last great Dragon of Middle Earth". It is also possible that Drogoth belonged to a lesser kind of Dragon but none of that is comfirmed. Drogoth certainly was aware of Smaug's death and being one of the last if not the last winged dragon, seized the opportunity to claim a realm for himself. In the year 3018 of the third age, the Mouth of Sauron gave Drogoth one of the 7 dwarven ring in exchange of an alliance with him and the lesser Drakes. Few weeks after the departure of the Fellowship of the ring, Drogoth joined his forces with Gorkil, the recently self proclaimed king of the Orcs of the Misty Mountains who established a new kingdom spanning from the Etten Moors to the northern reaches of the ancient realm of Angmar. This new alliance presented a serious threat to all free people living west of the Misty Mountains such as the Elves of Rivendell and Lindon, the Hobbits, The Men and the Dwarves of the Blue Mountains. Drogoth soon led an army of Orcs, trolls, drakes and took possession of an important dwarven city and the treasures it contained in the Blue Mountains. The dwarves were soon overwhelmed and were forced to flee their great halls for a nearby network of caverns. After the Goblin King was killed by Glorfindel in a battle that took place in an ancient fortress that once belonged to the Witch King of Angmar in the Etten Moors where the king had established his "capital", a dwarf prisoner that was probably taken by the goblins when they stormed the dwarven halls in the blue mountains, informed Glorfindel and Gloin of the situation. Drogoth and his goblin army caused many death amongst the Dwarves and many were consumed by the fire of the Dragon who still boasted an immense power. Ultimately, Drogoth and his army were forced to retreat in the treasure room, all Orcs were killed and Drogoth once again killed many dwarves but was finally slain by Glorfindel putting a definitive end to the Immense threat Drogoth represented to all of Eriador.
Physical appearance[]
Drogoth is a huge creature, from its in-game depiction we can tell he's about 100 feet long with a wingspan of 110-120 feet making of him one of the biggest, if not the biggest living creature in Middle-Earth. Drogoth is a gray Dragon and appears to be scaleless but make up for it by wearing armored plates on his back and head. It is not clear if the lack of scales is due to his probably young age for a dragon or due to his kind.
Power and abilities[]
Being a dragon Drogoth boasts immense physical power and resilience. The fact he easily stormed a wealthy and well defended dwarven city even if aided by Goblins and other creatures speaks volume of his lethality easily making him one of the most powerful being in Middle Earth after Sauron, the Istaris, The Balrog, the Great Elven Lords ( Galadriel, Elrond, Cirdan, Glorfindel ) and possibly the Witch King. Not only strong physically, his fire breath is by far his most destructive ability making of Drogoth the biggest threat the Northern Realms have encountered since the Witch King of Angmar.
Good Campaign[]
Drogoth joins Sauron and commands the Goblins in exchange for one of the Dwarven Rings of Power, for as it is said, most of the Dwarven Rings were "consumed" by dragons. He commands a legion of Goblins, and takes over a Dwarven city in the Blue Mountains as his new lair. With the arrival of Glorfindel and Glóin, the Dwarves are able to fight back a multitude of Goblins, Spiders, Trolls, and Fire-drakes. In the end, Glorfindel and Glóin destroy Drogoth and the Dwarves reclaim their home and the Dwarven Ring. Unfortunately, they refuse to aid the Elves against Sauron, and instead returned to mine for more gems in their underground tunnels.
Evil Campaign[]
In the BFME II Evil Campaign, Sauron's legion from Dol Guldur heads to the Withered Heath in an attempt to recruit Drogoth and the dragons in their war against the Dwarves. After slaughtering the Dwarven warriors and freeing the dragons' offspring, the Mouth of Sauron recruits Drogoth in exchange for a Dwarven Ring of Power and the treasures of the Lonely Mountain.
Drogoth takes part in the final battle at Rivendell, as a hero who can be recruited.
