Disa was a Dwarven princess of Khazad-dûm in the Second Age.
Biography[]
At some point, Disa was courted and wed by Durin IV, after the prince noticed her at a particular mining location and continued to return. The couple had two children, Gerda and Gamli.
When Elrond visited Khazad-dûm and learned of Durin's resentment towards him for having stayed away for so long, the Elf convinced the prince to let him apologize in person to his family. Disa welcomed him warmly and insisted he stay for dinner, against Durin's wishes, and afterwards helped mediate a repairing of friendship between the two, leading Durin to listen to the proposal Elrond had brought from Eregion.
When Disa discovered a new ore during while looking for gold, Durin spearheaded a clandestine operation to mine the new mineral, as his father, the king, forbade it due to its dangerous nature. Disa covered Durin's true doings from inquirers, including Elrond, who came to ask why the prince had become difficult to find. Elrond, however, discovered the truth by eavesdropping from afar soon afterwards as Durin updated his wife on the operation's findings. After a subsequent mine collapse that trapped four dwarves, Disa sang a haunting melody described as a plea to the rocks; a request to the mountain to release the miners.
Elrond, having learned of the Elves' need for mithril to keep from being forced to leave Middle-earth, brings a proposal to King Durin that would allow the Elves to acquire the metal. Durin III refuses, however, believing he will be taken advantage of. Durin IV is outraged and confesses his frustrations to Disa, who reminds her husband of his role as heir to the throne, and exhorts him to plan for his days as Khazad-dûm's ruler.
