Daniel Falconer was a Senior Designer at Weta Workshop responsible for weapon, armor, and creature design for Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings films and The Hobbit films.
He worked with Jackson also on King Kong (2005), and with Weta on The Chronicles of Narnia films (2005 - 2010).
Involvement[]
Many of Falconer's object and creature designs proposed for or used in The Lord of the Rings films are featured in Gary Russell's books The Art of The Fellowship of the Ring, The Art of The Two Towers, and The Art of The Return of the King. In the extended editions of the films, Falconer speaks in bonus-disc documentaries such as "Designing and Building Middle-earth". The final look of Treebeard in the films was attained from a sketch by Falconer.[1]
In 2003, Falconer and Richard Taylor wrote the introduction to Chris Smith's The Lord of the Rings: Weapons and Warfare.
In 2017, he finished writing the largest guide to the making of Jackson's six films, Middle-earth: From Script to Screen, with the help of K.M. Rice.
