Daechanar - LOTR The Card Game

Daechanar with the possessed body of Iârion

Biography[]

A Dúnedain Ranger of Arnor, Deachanar and his family lived in Rhudaur before and during the war with Angmar. When the Witch-king's forces came to Rhudaur, Daechanar became a turncoat and join forces with Angmar and helped in the collapse of Rhudaur. Daechanar was rewarded in becoming one of the Witch-king's trusted lieutenants. Daechanar's brother Iârchon, who was an ancestor of Iârion, was among the few Dúnedain who managed to flee to Imladris. During the Siege of Imladris, Iârchon and Daechanar duel each other with Iârchon making the hard choice to slay his brother. Daechanar's death was the turning point for the siege, however, Daechanar cursed Iârchon with his last words, "I will outlive all of you and haunt your descendants long after you are dead. My master has seen to that."

Daechanar's last words would turn true, as by some morgul sorcery his spirit returned as a wraith with a thirst for vengeance. During the years after the battle of the five armies but before Biblo's 111th Birthday, Daechanar began to summon evil creatures to Carn Dûm. Daechanar plans where to seek revenge on his death and to rebuild the Realm of Angmar to its former glory. Daechanar summoned a wraith named Thaurdir to be his chief lieutenant. His first command to Thaurdir was to seek out a descendant of Iârchon to whom he could possess. Thaurdir disguises himself as an old man refugee from a Bree-land village that was previous attacked by Orcs. After the player's heroes rescue the villagers from the Orcs, they along with Thaurdir are then brought to Deadman's Dike. Thaurdir quickly learns about Iârion and summons evil spirits to possess the bodies of fallen Dúnedain. In the chaos Thaurdir manages to knock out Iârion and take him to Mount Gram for holding.

The player's heroes manage to drive off the evil spirits and make haste to rescue Iârion. However, the heroes arrive too late to rescue Iârion from Mount Gram, Rhudaur, and Carn Dûm. During the Siege of Carn Dûm, the heroes manage to break through the defenses and slay Thaurdir. But as the heroes traverse the haunted hallways they come, yet again, too late to save Iârion as Daechanar had possessed the body of the Ranger and then turns to kill the heroes. The heroes, however, manage to defeat Daechanar and expel him from Iârion. Iârion in his last breath thanks the heroes for freeing him. However, there was little time to mourn the death of their fallen companion as Daechanar's final fury shook the inner halls causing the ceiling to cave in. It is unknown what the ultimate fate of Daechanar's spirit; if he saw judgement in the Halls of Mandos or not.

Daechanar's original armor would have been of ranger leather and cloth; which is the same type of armor of Iârion. His weapon is a two-handed sword that seems to have dark powers ebbed in it.

Strategy[]

Daechanar's biggest threat to the players is his special card abilities which increases his attack strength and can negate damage.
