Dís was a Dwarf woman of Durin's Folk.

Biography[]

Dís was the daughter of Thráin II and sister of Frerin and Thorin II, as well as the mother of Fíli and Kíli. She was born in the Lonely Mountain on TA 2760, and was later driven into exile by Smaug in TA 2770.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Dís is the only dwarf-woman ever named by J.R.R. Tolkien, in homage to her sons' valiant deaths in the Battle of Five Armies.[1]

Dís in The Lord of the Rings Online

  • In The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Dís is mentioned by Kíli after he has been captured by Wood-elves, and is being kept prisoner in a cell. He talks about her to Tauriel, one of the elves, and explains that a Dwarf-runed talisman he was holding is meant to remind him of the promise he made to his mother to return.
