Cormarë, or Ringday, was a festival of the Reunited Kingdom in honor of Frodo Baggins after the conclusion of the War of the Ring and destruction of Sauron and the One Ring. It was held on September 30 in the New Reckoning; this corresponded with Frodo's birthday, September 22 in the Shire's calendar. It was doubled to account for leap-years.[1]
Etymology[]
Corma is the supposed Quenya word for "ring", according to records of J.R.R. Tolkien's languages at Ardalambion.
Real world[]
Many Tolkien societies around the world such as that of Denmark and Switzerland were purposefully founded on September 22. And because the Cormarë honored Frodo, the date is also considered Hobbit Day in Tolkien fandom. Walking Tree Publishers' extensive Cormarë Series, begun in 1997, is named after it.
