Chief Turch is a Dunlending created by Fantasy Flight Games for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. He is encountered in The Dunland Trap and The Antlered Crown adventure packs.
Biography[]
Chief Turch is the chief of the Boar Clan. On the player's heroes' journey to Tharbad they are attacked by a war party of Dunlendings led by Chief Turch. Most of the heroes' company is slain by the brutal Dunland assault. The few that remain were held at spear-point. One of the heroes' baggage fell open, revealing the totemic amulet found earlier in the Orc caves of Methedras. After a brief questioning on where the heroes had got it, Turch orders his men to lower their spears and bind the heroes as prisoners.
At Turch's warcamp, Turch tells them about the tragedy of his son who had been attempted "The Three Trials", a quest to recover the lost Antler Crown of the Dunlendings which would allow the unification of all Dunlending clans, but was killed by Mugash's Orcs. Turch expresses gratitude to the heroes that his son has been avenged, but that to allow the heroes' passage through his lands, they must complete the same Trials and bring Antler Crown back to him.
Turch and his warriors lead the heroes to the haunted forest where three barrows hold the keys to the grand barrow containing the Antler Crown. Turch says that the heroes's success will grant them and Saruman his clan's friendship, but that failure would ensure the heroes' death. The heroes manage to bravely defeat the Tomb Guardians in the barrows, and retrieve the Crown.
During the victory feast Turch tells the heroes the significance of the crown. The crown belonged to the last Dunlending King; who was forced to move his people to Dunland after the "straw-heads" invaded. After the King died his three sons fought over the Kingship which lead to the fracturing of the Dunlendings into three clans: Boar, Raven, and Wolf. This nearly lead to civil war between Dunlendings, however, a wise Shaman took the crown to the forest barrows and placed a curse on it. The Shaman told the brothers that only the bravest could retrieve the crown and lead the Dunlendings. None of the brothers could defeat the guardians and retrieve it, so the crown remained locked up until the heroes came along. With the Antler crown in the possession of Chief Turch, he could claim the right to be leader of all Dunlendings.
However, the Raven clan declares war on the Boar clan over the right to rule the Dunlendings. After the heroes' journey from Ost-in-Edhil they come to a battlefield littered with the bodies of Boar and Raven warriors. They soon find Turch, wearing the Antler Crown, and his warriors. Turch tells the heroes that the Raven Chief refused Turch's claim to the crown and instead declare himself worthy of the crown; thus starting the conflict. Turch further tells that the Wolf Clan has cowardly remained neutral, but fears that they might join the Ravens if the Boar clan begins to waver in Strength. Turch pleads with the heroes to deal with the Raven clan. After a fierce battle Turch and the heroes defeat the Raven chief and bring peace among the Dunlendings. In the Aftermath the heroes forge an alliance between Isengard and the Dunlendings for protection against Sauron's forces and hopes to bring peace between Dunland and Rohan. What happens to Turch and his people afterwards is untold; they might have joined with Saruman to attack Rohan in the War of the Ring.
Chief Turch wears mostly furs and leathers with a boar's head as his helm. His weapon is that of wood and animal bones.
Strategy[]
Chief Turch's biggest threat is that he cannot leave gameplay, and cannot have attachments (but is not immune to player card effects).
