Celebrindor was the fifth King of Arthedain.
Biography
Celebrindor was the son of King Celepharn of Arthedain. He came to the throne in TA 1191 at the death of his father. During Celebrindor's rule over Arthedain, there was peace between relations with the other splinter-realms of Arnor, Cardolan and Rhudaur and therefore his reign was an uneventful one, and no evil threatened the realm as of yet. Celebrindor died in TA 1272 after ruling for eighty-one years and was succeeded by his son Malvegil.[2]
Etymology
Celebrindor was a Sindarin name that probably meant 'silver[3]lord' or 'silverlike lord'.
Former names
As outlined in The Peoples of Middle-earth: The Heirs of Elendil, Celebrindor was first written as Celemenegil and Celebrindol but was corrected and changed to Celebrindor.[1]
