Catherine McIlwaine is Tolkien Archivist of the Bodleian Library at the University of Oxford, which contains most of J.R.R. Tolkien's manuscripts.
She is author of Tolkien: Maker of Middle-earth (2018) and its companion Tolkien: Treasures, which present considerable material of J.R.R. Tolkien thitherto unpublished. She was co-editor with Richard Ovenden of The Great Tales Never End, an essay compilation honoring Christopher Tolkien after his death in 2020.
In 1989, she received her B.A. at University of Sheffield, and four years later her Masters in Archival Administration at University of Liverpool. She became Tolkien Archivist at the Bodleian in 2003.[1]
