"TA 2890"?[]

Seeing that old page come up again reminds me that I've had little or no response to my suggestion (and subsequent link-creation) that we reduce typing time to an almost-minimum and follow the modern "AD" model as in the heading above. Any opinions from newcomers who didn't see the original message or old-timers who haven't quite formed an opinion yet?

Shouldn't Third Age middle earth dates be the plain number, but "real" world dates be AD 1982 ? Gimli 01:39, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Some kind soul has put scores of Third Age into "TA" form, so I'd rather leave them that way. Having "AD" as the plain numbers will simplify editing of material copied from Wikipedia - no changes needed. Robin Patterson 06:02, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

FA - First Age; Fourth Age SR?[]

Very few First Age years are of any relevance to Lord of the Rings, but we have more than that on this site now. Fourth Age has even fewer years mentioned. I suggest that we use "FA" exclusively for "First Age" and "SR" (Shire Reckoning) for the Fourth. Robin Patterson 06:02, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

I have recently started to take the approach of many Middle-earth reference books and label the Fourth Age FO. I think that this will cause the least amount of confusion. Razor77 16:31, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
No disagreement in 3 months. Must be a good idea! Thanks. Robin Patterson 01:38, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
