Carnil (Mars)

Carnil was one of the Stars set in the heavens of Arda by Varda.

History Edit

Alcarinquë was made by Varda in preparation for the Awakening of the Elves from the silver dews of Telperion stored in the Wells of Varda. It was red in colour[1] and is thought to be Mars.[citation needed][2]

Etymology Edit

Although difficult to decipher, the word Carnil may have come from Quenya and could have meant "red friend", though this may not be true. This would come from the words carnë, meaning "red", and nil, meaning "friend".[3]
