Bucca of the Marish was a Hobbit of the Shire and the first Shire-thain. He presumably originated from the Marish region of the Shire.
Biography[]
Being a well-respected hobbit, Bucca became Shire-thain in place of the King at Fornost in TA 1979 (SR 379).[1] He founded the family of the Oldbucks, who later became the Brandybucks, after settling in Buckland. Other aspects of Bucca's life are not known, including his eventual fate.
Etymology[]
The name Bucca comes from the Old English bucc ("male deer") or bucca ("he-goat").[2]
