Here's a brand new The Hobbit production video by Peter Jackson, this time focusing mostly on introducing the thirteen dwarves and the actors playing them. Check it out below:
Additionally, there's also a new composite photo with all the dwarves from the upcoming movie. From left to right: Jed Brophy as Nori, Dean O'Gorman as Fili, Mark Hadlow as Dori, James Nesbitt as Bofur, Peter Hambleton as Gloin, Graham McTavish as Dwalin, Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, Ken Stott as Balin, John Callen as Oin, Stephen Hunter as Bombur, William Kircher as Bifur, Adam Brown as Ori and Aidan Turner as Kili, released at TheOneRing.net.
How do you like the dwarves? I wasn't thrilled about some of their looks, but after watching the video, I'm sold!

Meanwhile, Snowblind's Lord of the Rings: War in the North will bring us to the regions described in The Hobbit, but during the War of the Ring itself. While we followed the adventures of the Fellowship of the Ring, the dwarves…
Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield
Lord of the Rings fansite TheOneRing.net was the one to get the final The Hobbit dwarf reveal - King Thorin Oakenshield himself, played by Richard Armitage.
- As a young Dwarf prince, Thorin witnessed the destruction and terror wrought when a great fire-breathing Dragon attacked the Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. After slaughtering many of Thorin’s kin, the great serpent, Smaug, entered The Lonely Mountain and took possession of its vast store of gold and jewels. No-one came to the aid of the surviving Dwarves, and thus, a once proud and noble race was forced into exile. Through long years of hardship, Thorin grew to be a strong and fearless fighter and revered leader. In his heart a fierce desire grew; a desire to reclaim his homeland and destroy the…
Ten dwarves down, three more to go
In the latest installment of The Hobbit cast reveal, MSN gives us a photo of Dean O'Gorman as Fili and Aidan Turner as Kili:
- Two of the youngest Dwarves, Fili and Kili have been born into the royal line of Durin and raised under the stern guardianship of their uncle, Thorin Oakensheild. Neither has ever travelled far, nor ever seen the fabled Dwarf City of Erebor. For both, the journey to the Lonely Mountain represents adventure and excitement. Skilled fighters, both brothers set off on their adventure armed with the invincible courage of youth, neither being able to imagine the fate which lies before them.
Meanwhile, IGN has a picture of Stephen Hunter as Bombur, James Nesbitt as Bofur and William Kircher as Bifur.
- While most of the Company of…
Oin and Gloin revealed
After the recent reveal of Nori, Dori and Ori, now it's time for two more of the thirteen dwarves that accompany Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit movies - John Callen as Oin and Peter Hambleton as Gloin.
- Distant cousins of Thorin Oakenshield, these two doughty Northern Dwarves join the Company out of a sense of loyalty to their kin, and also because they have a substantial sum of money invested in the venture. Along with Bombur, Gloin is the only other married Dwarf in the Company (there being a shortage of female dwarves in general). His wife is an acclaimed beauty with a particularly fine beard. Gloin is the proud father of a young son, Gimli, who will go on to become part of the famous Fellowship of the Ring.

Peter Jackson's new Hobbit video blog
Director Peter Jackson has just released the second installment of The Hobbit video blog, where Jackson and Andy Serkis (Gollum actor and now also second unit director) take us behind the scenes of the upcoming movies. In the video, we see many of the actors portraying the fan-beloved characters and go scouting for locations in the gorgeous New Zealand.
Favorite movie of the trilogy?
To be honest, I love all three movies, but my most favorite has to be Return of the King. Comment below and please tell me what yours is. (And you can have multiple favorites btw.)
Nori, Ori and Dori revealed
Personally, I've always had a hard time distinguishing the dwarves in The Hobbit, but from the newly released photo and its official description, it looks like they've been given more unique personality traits in the upcoming The Hobbit movies.
Our first dwarf photo shows (from left to right) Jed Brophy as Nori, Adam Brown as Ori and Mark Hadlow as Dori. Here's the description from The Hobbit official Facebook page:
- These three brothers, all sons of the same mother, could not be more different from each other. Dori, the oldest, spends much of his time watching out for Ori, the youngest; making sure he’s not caught a chill or got himself killed by Wargs or Goblins. Nobody quite knows what Nori gets up to most of the time, except that it’s guarante…
Entertainment Weekly to Publish Exclusive "Hobbit" Preview Tomorrow
We still have a long way ahead of us before Peter Jackson's two-part adaptation of The Hobbit finds its way into theatres, but Entertainment Weekly has announced it will have an exclusive behind-the-scenes look, published tomorrow.
The photo here is of Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins. Said Jackson to EW about it, "He fits the ears, and he's got some very nice feet. I think he's got the biggest hobbit feet we've had so far. They're a little bit hard to walk in, but he's managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait.
You can find a sneak peek of the sneak peek right here.

Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries join the cast of The Hobbit
After recent exciting cast annoucements, The Hollywood Reporter now reports that Losts Evangeline Lilly has joined the cast of the upcoming The Hobbit movies as a newly created character, Wood Elf Tauriel. Her name means "daughter of Mirkwood". Peter Jackson has stated that there won't be any romantic connection between her and Mirkwood prince Legolas, though.
Another actor announced to have been cast in the production is Barry Humphries, who will portray the Great Goblin via motion capture similar to the one used by Andy Serkis as Gollum.
What do you think about the new announcements? As someone who used to be quite a Tolkien purist, I'm not sure about the addition of more new characters. But I guess we'll have to wait and see!
Benedict Cumberbatch as the voice of Smaug and the Necromancer
Deadline reports that Benedict Cumberbatch will voice the fearsome dragon Smaug in the upcoming The Hobbit films. Not only that, but he will also voice another character, who was only mentioned in the actual book. Don't look further if you want to avoid spoilers!
According to the article, Cumberbatch will also be the voice of the mysterious Necromancer of Dol Guldur, whom Lord of the Rings fans know to actually be the Dark Lord Sauron. It's been mentioned a while ago that the movies will show us some of the events involving Gandalf that happened during The Hobbit but which were only mentioned in the books. Maybe there will be some surprises even for longtime fans?
This won't be the first meeting of Cumberbatch and Bilbo Baggins actor Martin Freema…

Favorite scene from the books/movies.
I personally have a lot of faves. To name a few, I have to say:
1. Frodo volunteers to take the Ring to Mordor.
2. The Fellowship on the Bridge. The movie makes it so much more epic!
3. Sam faces off with Shelob. Go Sam!
4. The Battle on the Pelennor Fields. Awesome battle!
5. Frodo says goodbye at the Havens.
6. Sam keeps his promise to never leave Frodo before they embark on the quest together.

Ian McKellen gets back in character
Things are really starting to heat up on the set of Peter Jackson's upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit! Filming started earlier this month and Ian McKellen is downright giddy to get back in his white robe as Gandalf!
"It’s like old times," McKellen wrote on his blog. "Gandy’s clothes are hanging round my trailer and in steps Emma Harre, who dressed me last time, valiant, sporting, reliable and ready to put up once more with my early morning grumps and end-of-day sloth. We giggle as we remember the tricks of the layered costume, the hidden belts and braces. It’s all new, and looking it, and will till broken down. But it fits, even the new hat."
"The false nose too looked not quite as we’d remembered," he continued. "That’s because…

Attention LoTR Wiki!
Hey LoTR wiki, I'm FalcoPunch from SporeWiki. I'm here to tell you that SporeWiki was hit by a massive vandal just minutes ago, and he said, after about half an hour, he was moving on to other wikis to vandalize. I'm warning you right now. If you see a page called "Dorian Thorn", then he's here. Warning you, FalcoPunch!
Restoring the Wikia Tour
Created several years ago. An apparently misinformed helper deleted it in 2008, and I didn't notice. I discovered the deletion when I found that the link from the previous tour didn't work. Now it's restored.
Needs some updating to reflect the shifting emphasis of this wiki. Current activists can discuss that.
If you need structural help (e.g. inserting new pages), ask me.
