This article is about the burial ground of the Kings of Rohan. For the residence of the Barrow-wights, see Barrow-downs.

Barrowfield was the name given to the burial grounds of the Kings of Rohan.

History[]

Barrowfield was located near Edoras, along the path leading to the city.[1] The location consisted of two lines of barrows, or mounds, the first line in which the first nine kings were buried, starting with Eorl the Young and ending with Helm Hammerhand in the ninth and final mound of that line. After the death of Fréaláf Hildeson, a new line of barrows was begun,[2] where the kings preceding Théoden were laid to rest. After Éomer's death, a new line of barrows was presumably begun.
