Portrayal in adaptations
In Middle-earth: Shadow of War, Ranger is an Olog-hai who only speaks Black Speech. He can speak the common tongue, but decides not to as he thinks it's a sin that Ratbag can't speak any Black Speech. Since Ratbag doesn't understand Black Speech, he thinks Ranger is dumb. As such, Ratbag gives him the nickname "Ranger" in honor of Talion.
When Ratbag saves him, Ranger returns the favor by staying with him and protecting him. Eventually, the ranger Talion and his bodyguard Brûz took over the fortress of Núrn, of which Ranger had become the overlord, though Talion appointed a different overlord afterwards.
