Anborn was a Man of Gondor and a scout for the Rangers of Ithilien.
Biography[]
On March 7, 3019, Anborn reported to his captain, Faramir, that he had seen a strange creature scurry up a tree and hiss at him. Anborn theorized that it might have been a large squirrel of Mirkwood, though he then thought that unlikely, as the creature he saw was black and had no tail. However, under law of Gondor that no animal of Ithilien should be harmed for any reason, Anborn left the creature alone.[1] Anborn later spotted Gollum in the Forbidden Pool and reported it to Faramir at once.[2]
In adaptations[]
- In The Lord of the Rings Online, Anborn is first met in Bâr Húrin, a refugee of rangers in South Ithilien, where he tasks the player to prove their worth by assisting the Rangers with battle preparations and then dealing with a small encampment of Haradrim. During the enemy's advance Bâr Húrin is discovered, but Anborn and the other Rangers escape to Henneth Annûn where they wait out the siege of the White City. After the Battle of the Pelennor Fields Anborn asks the player to help with treating the wounded and preventing the Easterlings from setting up a trap for Aragorn's forces. He then joins the Army of the West in the march to Dagorlad and survives the Battle of the Morannon. After King Elessar charges Steward Faramir with cleansing the evil of Minas Morgul and the Morgul Vale, Damrod establishes a camp in the entrance to the Vale from North Ithilien, which serves as the main staging point for the operations against the Dead City itself.
- Anborn was released as a model by Games Workshop alongside follow ranger Mablung the Ranger for use in the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game.
