An Atlas of Tolkien is a small chronological atlas of Arda, written by David Day in 2015 and published in softcover by Thunder Bay Press (San Diego).

This atlas features colored maps and illustrations throughout, but despite being created long after the releases of Peter Jackson’s famous Lord of the Rings movies, the book contains neither cinematic stills nor film-inspired drawings.

Contents[]

An Atlas of Tolkien begins with a preface explaining the book’s purpose and the geographical and historical contexts of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy undertaking. Following the preface is a timeline of the Undying Lands and of the four Ages of Arda (identical in layout as the timeline in The Tolkien Bestiary). The main body of the atlas is six chapters summarizing the history of Tolkien’s world, from the events of the Ainulindalë to the departure of the Ring-bearers across the Sea.

"J. R. R. Tolkien’s fictional universe is as vast as the human imagination, so an atlas is a helpful tool to get around. Consider this book your navigational guide to Middle-earth and the Undying Lands. Maps, images, and vivid descriptions in full color create an enchanting reference to all the fantastical places and creatures that sprung from Tolkien’s mind. The deluxe, heat-burnished cover makes this a charming addition to your Tolkien library. This work is unofficial and is not authorized by the Tolkien Estate or HarperCollins Publishers."
