Amon Dîn was the first, and perhaps the oldest, of the seven Beacon-hills of Gondor, located between Drúadan Forest and the Grey Wood.[1]
History[]
It was originally used as a fortified outpost of the city of Minas Tirith keeping watch over north Anórien and Ithilien. Prior to the Siege of Gondor, Amon Dîn was the first beacon to be lit.[1]
Etymology[]
Amon Dîn was Sindarin for 'silent hill'.[2]
