Amarthiúl - LOTR The Card Game

Amarthiúl is a Dúnedain Hero created by Fantasy Flight Games for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game.

Biography[]

Amarthiúl is encountered in the Angmar Awakens Cycle (Part of The Lost Realm Expansion). He is a playable ally-objective in the The Wastes of Eriador, Across the Ettenmoors, and The Treachery of Rhudaur adventure packs. Players can get him as a playable hero in The Battle of Carn Dûm adventure pack.

Amarthiúl is introduced when the player's heroes are brought to Deadman's Dike. He is good friends with Iârion, who treats him as a younger brother. When Iârion is capture by the evil wraith Thaurdir, Amarthiúl rallies the player's heroes to help rescue him. When the player's heroes are capture by Goblins and imprisoned at Mount Gram it is Amarthiúl who comes to the rescue for them. Amarthiúl continues to assist the player's throughout the rest of the Angmar Awaken's Cycle. Once Thaurdir and Daechanar are defeated and Iârion avenged, Amarthiúl pledges his sword to player's heroes to help them on future adventures.

Amarthiúl's armor is only that of ranger leather and cloth, which is moderately worn and torn due to the harsh climate and living condition the Rangers of the North have to live with. His only weapon shown is two board swords which he uses for duel-wielding, which make him very powerful for attack and defense.

Card usage[]

In the card game, Amarthiúl is largely associated with attacking and defending. His best use is with decks that give bonus to engaging many enemies (typically decks with other Dúnedain characters). Amarthiúl's willpower of 1 is pretty weak for him to be used for questing regularly. His attack value of 3 is strong enough for him to be used as an attacker regularly, however, some enemies will take a couple turns to die if Amarthiúl is attacking alone. Amarthiúl's defense of 3 is good to use of him as a defender, however, his health of 3 does not last very long, and not many enemies have an attack value of 2 or less.
