For 5 decades there have been several adaptations to The Hobbit, set in Middle-earth.
Film[]
Two film adaptations of The Hobbit have been made. The first was The Hobbit (1978) animated film by animation studio Rankin/Bass. Then director Peter Jackson made the live-action The Hobbit film trilogy, released in three installments as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).
