A Middle-earth Traveler: Sketches from Bag End to Mordor is a book showcasing the work of Tolkien artist John Howe, published in 2018 first by HarperCollins, intended to serve as a tour through J.R.R. Tolkien's world.
Over a hundred illustrations of persons, events, creatures (such as trolls and dragons), and scenery of Middle-earth are featured, from all ages of Arda's history. Alongside the illustrations, Howe relays some of Tolkien's lore and descriptions of the subjects.
A Middle-earth Traveler is the first published portfolio of Howe's Middle-earth illustrations. Unlike Alan Lee in his art book The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook (2005), Howe does not describe in A Middle-earth Traveler his own drawing process, or recount his involvement with Middle-earth productions.
