Yikes. Record steaminess in here. Anyone remember Skypyre, back in '22 ?
A good walk outside around the block might be advised.
@RazzTheSpaz Good observation! Every one of the Harfoots, realistically, should have been acted by brown-skinned folks then. Curious whether the show-makers saw that detail you're quoting.
The Brothers! We've not added the Brothers! They're essential.
My reason behind voting "Not his writing" is as follows: It is not his writing, in the constructional, story-sense, beyond the individual characters and events that are borrowed from lore. (Or, excised, to be exact. Others who hate the show might prefer the metaphor of "eviscerated" instead of excised, but I don't believe it's that macabre a matter.)
@NBurbidge So what if BB made the hobbits feel at home? That's the job of any innkeeper whose ulterior motive is to further the good reputation of their establishment. BB was just doing his job.
@Beechey Yeah, the evidence has definitely mounted.
I'm still irked by the coincidence that Galadriel just happened to swim into him on the sea in episode one. Excited for a justification as to what grander force brought them together, in that moment, in holy matrimony.
@Gorthangthecruel Okay, now why exactly did the curtain of Valinor, on the sea in episode one, make you think of Trump and his wall? Let's dive into this topic. (!!)
@Fandyllic You would refute them, but don't care enough? That's convenient, I guess? Laziness does serve us well sometimes
@NBurbidge When does Galadriel contradict herself? Also it's not true that "no one really" cares about the invented characters because I could easily show you LOTR communities where folks do. (I somewhat care about Arondir because I'm curious what further Elvish things the show will bring out of him, or to hear more details of his origin.) Thirdly, you say there aren't enough canon characters- are there major canon characters besides Cirdan, Celeborn, and Celebrian that you think could have included by now, or were you mainly thinking of those.
@TheRareExtrovertGeek Oh certainly someone could make a "true" point about Tolkien's opinion, if we have the opinion in question in verifiable form. For example, we know he disliked French food. (And if I were to add more explanation to why that is, I would be making a "point" altogether.)
@Pdmyf You didn't quite clarify how Andor won't be a cash grab, by the same rubric.
@Tar-Akhorahil Ohh okay, I get you. It's a mark of modern, fantasy-or-SciFi VFX norms to be sure.
@Tar-Akhorahil Could that aspect not be justified by the fact that Lindon is an Elven realm, thus entitled to its own alien [to us] properties of air-ambience and the like? The yellow from all the trees, which I'm guessing are meant to be Mallorn, could very well be emitting all that light in addition to the Sun's, making for the hyper-real lighting.
Somewhat difficult. Like any well-written tragic character he constantly walked the fringe between what his will / self-control could have controlled and what was unalterable under Morgoth's curse.
