But in the book, as I remember, it was only one...? scene with his 2 personalities being separated. Then when Gollum spoke eyes had green light, and when Smeagol did, eyes weren't glowing with that light
"Under the misty mountains cold
Sits a goregeous dragon
Who jus needs a lil cudddle
He mus protecc
Hil lil bit o gold
To keep his sanity

This is art. My favorite poetry now😂
Very detailed plot with no mistakes, absolutely accurate world, interesting and likeable characters. As far as I'm perfectionist, all of these points are important for me. I felt like I have gone all the way with some of characters and felt strong emotions due to their destiny.
Characters are the most valuable thing for me in writings, so LOTR satisfied me at this point. Smeagol is, sincerely, one of the mayor reasons why I like LOTR this much.😅
Better version of Gollum or Orcs. I know people will not understand me🌚
Smeagol is my biggest fave
@FH2104 I haven't watched films but I enjoyed their friendship in books. Yes, there wasn't so much focus on them, but development was pretty good.
@FH2104 Finally someone who finds him boring! I don't hate him, no, I'm neutral to him. I just don't really enjoy him as a character. But his moments of interaction with Gimli are interesting and funny.
Gollum and precious are the best and most dramatic and complex love story in LOTR
Sincerely I haven't got any character in LOTR that I really hate. Maybe LOTR is the only book without characters which are hateble for me.
Denethor is my least favorite character and he is the only character I really dislike. I don't like him but I wasn't really happy when he died, maybe because his death was depressing.
I don't like Sauron also, like he is pure evil. But I think I can't really define him as hated because I haven't read Silmarrillion and know barely about Sauron (just had read his story on Wiki)
Fun fact: When I started reading LOTR, Gollum really infuriated me and had great potential to become my really most hated character. But then I started liking him,
And now Smeagol is my most favorite character among all fandoms, LOL 😂
Me!
@Aiedaeil I'm Smeagol fan too. He is my all time favorite character now. (Before it was Severus Snape from Harry Potter but Gollum kicked him out of his place haha)
So, I'm a liar then. Why did you call Gollum as "this"? Poor Smeagol, it wasn't polite😩👿👊
Disclaimer: (I know, this post is not serious, and I'm not mad at all😁)
Thanks, got it
"Snicker"
What does it mean?
Smeagol is my most favorite character not only in Tolkien's universe (firstly Snape from Harry Potter was my biggest favorite, but then Smeagol has stolen his place).
When I started reading LOTR my favorite was Sam, he is such a cool gardener 😎. And I hated Smeagol (I wanted him to croak so hard) since he was introduced by Gandalf. I hated him even more when he appeared in Two Towers, but then I accidentally started liking him and when Faramir captured Frodo and Sam (Gollum disappeared then for awhile), I really wanted him to return. And when Faramir wanted to kill Smeagol, I was like: Hey, you, don't touch my boi👿. Then Sam and Smeagol were my equal favorites, but eventually Smeagol won
Yeah, I couldn't explain all my thoughts in a short way
And I like how you picked pictures from different interpretations of these characters. Also "It's the Blob's" Gollum is my favorite design of him!
Smeagol! He is the most interesting and original character I have ever seen. Also I like his personality and interesting combination of personality disorder, addiction, evil and good sides in him
I feel very bad for him. For Smeagol only, because using name Gollum we can also mean Smeagol's second personality, which has only evil in it. So, why I think that he deserves better:
1. He has got serious psychological problems. While re-reading his backstory, I have noticed some interesting details. When Smeagol says Deagol to give him the ring, he says "Give US that, my love". And after he have got the ring he immediately starts to act so weird (makes strange sounds, bites his relatives like a savage). This made me think, that he always had second personality and some mental illness. That makes sense of the fact, that he never liked to look up in the sky and didn't really like sun: his second (Gollum) personality affected on his behaviour. Maybe second ego was created in childhood because of some trauma (it's common reason for this disorder). I may suppose, that Gollum personality was some reflection of Smeagol's greed and desire to dominate. I have read lots of articles and videos about personality disorder illnesses (thanks to Smeagol😅) and that's what I can suppose with our limited knowledge about his pre-ring life.
Someone who has mental illness like that needs a therapist and some support but Smeagol have got only endless torture life.
2. He was able to overcome Gollum's affection on him a bit and the power of the ring after over than 500 years. Yes, he did it after Frodo's threats and vow but in final result betrayed his vow. But the fact, that Smeagol was able to be a semi-friendly, travel near to the one ring and resist the temptation to get it immediately and even had full repentance once a time (he even forgot about the ring then) - it's just unbelievable.
3. He never had someone who was close to him. Yes, Frodo supported him a bit, tried to trust the creature and pitied him, but Frodo just couldn't be real friend to Smeagol because:
1. Frodo was in charge of the fate of ring and being too naive towards insidious creature would be stupid
2. he found him ugly too and didn't really like him. Frodo just tried not to show it to Gollum.
Maybe if Smeagol had someone to be his real friend he would have been kinder, considering the fact, that Frodo did enough to almost turn him on good redemption path (Tolkien said this in one of his letters).
Smeagol was lonely in his life and had to deal with addition, his illness and other terrible things only by himself.
Once Smeagol succumbed his dark sides but all he went through was too cruel and unfair punishment for him.
That what I see in books, I have never seen films. I'm not native speaker also, sorry for mistakes
First Sawmise was my favorite and I hated Smeagol. But during "The two towers" Smeagol became my favorite number 1. I still like him the most (considering all different universes I like)
