Waaaarg!
There is a fan made edit called the hobbit M4 edit. It cuts a lot of crap out (no more she elf, no more ridiculous fight scene) and is the best version of the hobbit I have ever seen!
These are quotes from that article:
Once he received the screenplay, Tolkien was disappointed by his impression that the writer had “skimmed through the L. R. at a great pace” and based his screenplay on “partly confused memories” without referring back to the original. Tolkien noted that Boromir had been misspelled as Borimor and that Radagast had become, inexplicably, an Eagle. He felt that the writer, Morton Grady Zimmerman, had shown a “complete lack of respect” for the book because the screenplay seemed “willfully wrong without discernible technical reasons.”
Tolkien objected strongly to the idea of sequels to The Lord of the Rings written by fans, having been sent requests from fans wanting to do so at least twice, something he described as an “impertinent contribution to my troubles.”
How this article comes to its conclusion is a bit weird I think I did however I liked the last part of the last sentence
While it is possible he would have been horrified by the prospect of a Lord of the Rings cinematic universe, people taking up his stories and expanding on them in new media is the best evidence that he has succeeded in creating a new mythology, because to endure, a myth has to be retold.
The original movies did change my view on a lot of characters, the hobbit and show not so much, partly because there is not much in the source material, bad writing and/or bad implementation.
The new show is like a novice in his twenties took someone's life work and gave it his very, absolutely bestest he could give.
You can see glimpses of the greatness that could be in the show and that just fills me with sadness 😔
For me it's like this. The books are great. The lotr movies were great fanfict The Hobbit films were just fan fiction, and the new show... well let's just leave it like this:
Ah yes agree or only option left is Racism. You must be real "fun" in real life
There is no in universe reason for the diversity in the source material nor is it provided in the new material
Above can be said over most of the series 160 cm elves, hobbits that travel al the time etc. That to me me makes the show a farce
