Can we please stop saying “ripped off”?? If you actually look at the story’s and such, they are very different. Yes, they were inspired by lotr, but they are different. Tolkiens work inspired all modern fantasy. Stop hating on them. Enjoy them for what they are.

Thus is totally true. (However Tolkien's work has some resemblance to greek mythology too I thunk we should mention that)

@GandalfTheWhite11 Tolkien's work was inspired from other previous works, especially Icelandic and Norse Sagas, as well as Beowulf, perhaps more prominently than all. However, this does not cross the line to the near-blatant plagiarism that J.K. Rowling's books contain.

I’d say Tolkien is more similar to Norse mythology than Rowling is similar to Tolkien.

Why he's probably correct

Fyi she admitted to reading the books (like many other authors), which is definitely the big giveaway to copying the books, of course, there’s no direct copy of any character or name from Middle Earth but it’s definitely implied like you say. But at the end of the day it’s almost like a compliment to the sheer greatness of the world of Tolkien.
