Two of these aren't overshadowed: Sauron and Gollum are not obscure in their antagonistic role in the plot. Why did you call all of them overshadowed?

And Uglúk was not present at the Battle of Helm's Deep. He was rotting near Fangorn Forest at that time, where the éored had left him.

Sauron I listed here because of Morogoth being in a "higher position" in terms of power and position, making Sauron in the position of the "lesser". Sauron wanted to eventually outdo Morogoth, putting him in Morogoth's shadow.

I listed Gollum because of his being considered not nearly as powerful or prominent as other LoTR villians, yet he plays a huge role in the series and he basically helps determine the fate of the Ring.

Maybe there is a character called Morogoth in LotR that I missed. ;-)

No.1legoLoTRfan yes, one of the most complex and famous villains and antagonists in fiction, the titular character, and main antagonist of LotR is an overshadowed villain. That makes so much sense. It seems clear, also, that he had quite a bit of power within him as well, almost comparable to his master, whom he succeeded as Dark Lord for a far longer reign.
