In my opinion it would be Eärendil because he killed Ancalagon and possessed a Silmaril but who do you all think it would be?

@StingString what? Every person who knows anything about the LotR books knows that Sauron fought the duo of Elendil and Gil-galad, and thus was defeated. He didn't just keel over and die like in the film.
Insults aren't going to get you anywhere. I also suspect you won't be able to outsource StingString.
Allow me to say this one more time: Gil-Galad did not kill Sauron. Sauron killed him. Isildur killed Sauron.
Not super complicated.
^ I am not insulting him, I am questioning his knowledge. This very wiki supports my statement. It was not Gil-galad who slew Sauron, it was not Elendil who slew him. Isildur prevented further battle, by taking the ring. Sauron never died, only his body perished, and that's owed to Elendil and Gil-galad fighting him when he was vulnerable. Isildur took it from Sauron's defeated form, and thus Sauron's body was destroyed. That's it. All three of them were responsible for his death.
I agree, Gil-galad did not kill Sauron. That's my point. You gave Gil-galad (and Elendil) credit for killing Sauron earlier in this thread, and that is simply not true.
Right, Sauron wasn't actually killed, you know what I mean. I'm just using that as the operative term.
The only real argument you can make is that Gil-galad (with the help of Elendil) injured Sauron a bit, but they also lost that fight. Without Isildur, their is no vanquished Sauron. So if you're saying that the three of them share equal credit for the "death" of Sauron, that is also not true.
Look. this has all been a red herring from the larger issue, which is your claim that Gil-galad is stronger than Feanor because he defeated Sauron. That is just incorrect.
Feanor is far more powerful, but is not stronger than Gil-galad. Isildur could not have killed Sauron if not for Gil-galad. Gil-galad could not have done this without Elendil by his side, and the two wouldn't do that to Sauron if he had not fought their warriors prior.
@Immediate need @WizardWarrior1 Upon further research, including finding all mentions of Gil-galad in both The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings, I found this quote:
Then Gil-galad and Elendil passed into Mordor and encompassed the stronghold of Sauron; and they laid siege to it for seven years, and suffered grievous losses by fire and by the darts of and bolts of the Enemy, and Sauron sent many sorties against them. There in the valley of Gorgoroth Anárion son of Elendil was slain, and many others. But at last the siege was so strait that Sauron himself came forth; and he wrestled with Gil-galad and Elendil, and they both were slain, and the sword of Elendil broke underneath him as he fell. But Sauron also was thrown down, and with the hilt-shard of Narsil Isildur cut the Ruling Ring from the hand of Sauron and took it for his own. (The Silmarillion, pt V: Of the Rings of Power and the Third Age, p. 304; Houghton Mifflin Company 2004 edt.)
While I do not think that Tolkien meant that Sauron was to die in that scene, Sauron was obviously incapacitated.
I cede the point to Immediate Need. Not very often am I wrong; but I obviously was so in this case. I am sorry for any mudslinging, or perceived mudslinging, that I may have accidentally done during this discourse.
@Immediate need Strong and powerful are synonyms.
@StingString Regardless, it is clear that Gil-galad did not fully defeat Sauron, and could not even do so with the help of Elendil.
@WizardWarrior1 This is true. Elendil and Gil-galad fought Sauron, and died; but in doing so basically rendered him unconscious. Then Isildur took Narsil's shards and took Sauron's ring, permanently killing him.
@StingString see? I told you we're agreed.
Again, I'm not sure where the evidence is that Sauron was rendered "unconscious."
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse here, so I won't push it. But Gil-galad did not beat Sauron, and that is undisputable. Sauron killed him.
What do you think?
