@WizardWarrior1 I think if we're being honest, any version of this would almost certainly have ended up as something that Hollywood has done hundreds of times. Because that was always the issue—perhaps the only issue—with Jackson's original trilogy: that it sacrificed the details that made Tolkien's work unique in favour of securing box office domination. Superb films they are, but faithful adaptations less so.
I've always believed that if what you want to see is simply the story you already know, then you need no other screen than your mind's eye. Nothing will ever live up to that. Tolkien famously shied away from really describing any of the big battles. Most of them happen in microcosm, or have simply already happened by the time he gets round to talking about them. Jackson likes a battle. Anime I suspect likes a battle even more. Animation has never been a brilliant medium for static scenes of dialogue, of which Tolkien wrote many. It's (part of) why I prefer The Rings of Power. That show loves a stand-and-talk scene.
Yeah, of course it all comes down to personal taste. The story The War of the Rohirrim is apparently telling is not the one I think it should have told. But that's just me.
I'm excited to see what the storyline brings, but I agree anime wasn't the way to go. It doesn't feel right for the world. It's not that the art isn't awesome, it just doesn't go with Middle-Earth
Not bad...not good either, but looks fairly enjoyable, if you watch it as a fan-film.
Seems pretty cool.
Japanese trailer is even cooler.
You can watch the Japanese trailer here: https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/File:映画『ロード・オブ・ザ・リング/ローハンの戦い』日本版予告_2024年12月27日(金)公開
I'm not going to even join in this thread otherwise, because it is clear it will just devolve.
Good, that will be for the benefit of the users and discussion here.
Cool
My only problem is the charecter of Hera... she's pretty much an un-named character in the appendices, who's only mentioned thrice. And I feel like she's going to replace Helm Hammerhand (who's much cooler) as the main charecter.
But overall, I feel like this is gonna be a great show, the enemies look cool, and I've always felt like LotR would do well in the form of graphic novels or serious styles of anime.
What do you think?
