Gandalf, Saruman, Bilbo are pretty decent. Won’t talk about the worst, as it’s very context related and tends to end up as giving unnecessary grief to actors when they’ve ‘failed’ to meet your expected vision. To name a few- Orcs, Gollum, Nazghul (sounds) and shelob are all great, but totally not what I had in mind when reading)))
Gollum was not how I imagined him while reading the series, but he was still pretty great
Aragorn and saruman are definitly one of the best portrayed ones and worst mh I think I have to go with smeagol but he's like a lot more difficult to portay then men for example because it's a complete new introduction and everyone has an own image of him while reading :)
For the most part I think movies did incredible job and for only a few instances do I prefer my imagination (Galadriel, Elrond). One funny thing I remember was that I couldn't imagine how Aragorn could be justly portrayed and then when I saw Viggo's portrayal I knew that was the only Aragorn there could be! 😄
Saruman and Gandalf were portrayed brilliantly by their actors.
Ian McKellen is obviously an immensely talented actor and did a breathtaking job putting the depth required behind a historied character like Gandalf. Aragorn was absolutely amazing, far outdoing the version I had in my head while reading originally. That said, I think my surprise favourite might have been the Nazgul! I really had no idea how a film could portray the shadow, darkness and terror that Tolkien depicted them bringing. The shrieks they used in the films to portray the cries of the Nazgul were just perfectly wretched and I get chills every time I watch the scene at minas tirith when the witch king challenges Gandalf.
“Do you not know death when you see it.”
I feel lile Legolas and Gandalf were portrayed lovely by their actors Ian Mckellan and Orlando Bloom
Best; I would say Ian McKellen as Gandalf, his portrayal and the characterisation generally are brilliant.
Worst; Probably Lord Denethor. John Noble does a great job playing him, but the character is portrayed as insane throughout, which does him a great disservice.
Yes I agree, there was no context with Denethor with the influence of the palantir unfortunately!
They were all amazing. I just wish they had shown boromir’s good side a little more, he’s kinda a jerk throughout the movie but he really isn’t so bad in the book.
What do you think?
